Slept So Long…

But there was no need to be ashamed of tears, for tears bore witness that a man had the greatest of courage, the courage to suffer.― Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

I Am Blessed…

Today is my daughter’s birthday.  I now have three teenagers under my wing.  I cannot begin to express the joy they bring me.  There is nothing I cherish more than my children.  They accept me for who I am and brought me gifts of incense this Christmas.  After all, what does one get a shaman?

They have patiently allowed me to find my path while I have allowed them to follow their own.  Three beautiful people I have given to the world.

I am blessed.

To Love Life…

To love life when you have
no stomach for it and everything
you’ve held dear crumbles like
burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you,
heavy as water more fit for gills
than lungs; when grief weights
you like your own flesh only
more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think,
How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms & you say,
yes, I will take you, I will love you, again.

– Ellen Bass

Wild Heart…

If you find a woman
with a wild heart
do not try to tame her.
You must adore her
recklessly, the way
she is meant to be loved.

Do not try to quiet her,
for her roars will reach
far and wide.
She has something
important to say.
Help her say it.

Do not get in her way.
She stops for no one.
Do not try to change
the path she has chosen.
Learn also to love the wind
and let it change you.
